AVAC Successfully Advocates for Prenatal Immunization Measure in HHS Report

The 2021 Child and Adult Core Set Annual Review Stakeholder Workgroup released their recommendations for improving the Child and Adult Core Sets. AVAC strongly advocated for the adoption of a prenatal immunization measure in the report. The report also discusses the absence of immunization measures for adults age 65 and older.

The Child and Adult Core Sets of quality measures for Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) are key indicators of the access to—and quality of—the health care Medicaid and CHIP beneficiaries receive. The Core Sets are important tools states can use to monitor and improve the quality of health care provided to Medicaid and CHIP beneficiaries. AVAC was pleased that the 2021 Medicaid Child and Adult Core Set Review Workgroup Final Report included a recommendation to add the Prenatal Immunization Status measure to the 2021 core sets. AVAC also appreciated the discussion about the absence of immunization measures for adults age 65 and older. CMS/CMCS will release the 2021 Core Sets through an Informational Bulletin by December 31, 2020. You can read the full report here.
